Next Up in the Tartan Series: MacLachlan

June 17, 2015

1a-section-closeup

I have begun the next quilt in my Tartan Clan series. This one is based off of the MacLachlan Clan pattern.

I started with this group of plaid shirts ranging from green to pink with a little yellow thrown in for good measure.

1-shirts

I then cut out all of the hems and cuffs and straggly bits so that I have plain, flat fabric to work with.

Next comes strip piecing for similarly configured blocks. I think this pink and brown plaid is my favorite.

I couldn’t keep everything in order without my schematic.

Each section started with this central pink plaid square,

and became a section pieced together like this…

All the sections are now complete and are ready to be sewn together.

The quilt top will then go to my amazing quilter for the next layer of patterning. So stay tuned!

From Lori’s Notebook

  • Mark’s van der Rohe

It’s not often that the clothing I receive for my memorial quilts so clearly reflects a person’s passion and life work.

  • Louisa’s Eclipse

I believe many of us from a certain generation can relate to having held on to a box of our mother’s or grandmother’s table linens which we don’t have the heart to discard, nor do we want to bust out our irons every time we have a dinner party.

  • A Tartan for Tasmania

After having successfully shipped my most recent quilt all the way to my client Sigrid in Tasmania, I can officially say that my work has made its way across the world.
