Keep A Breast Exhibition

October 5, 2016

1

Last week a friend of mine, who also happens to be a breast cancer survivor, invited me to a truly amazing show opening. It is called Keep A Breast Treasured Chest, sponsored by the Keep A Breast foundation. The show featured the body casts of 14 breast cancer survivors which were subsequently painted by 14 different artists – each castee was paired with an artist, and the results were stunning. The gallery space, which is part of the Sentinel Hotel in downtown Portland, is intimate in size and the perfect setting for this potent work.

Here are the pieces, which speak for themselves. I have named the artists, but not the “castees” for privacy purposes. (The pink cast above was painted by Annamieka Hopps Davidson).

From Lori’s Notebook

  • Mark’s van der Rohe

It’s not often that the clothing I receive for my memorial quilts so clearly reflects a person’s passion and life work.

  • Louisa’s Eclipse

I believe many of us from a certain generation can relate to having held on to a box of our mother’s or grandmother’s table linens which we don’t have the heart to discard, nor do we want to bust out our irons every time we have a dinner party.

  • A Tartan for Tasmania

After having successfully shipped my most recent quilt all the way to my client Sigrid in Tasmania, I can officially say that my work has made its way across the world.
