Floral Inspirations

March 21, 2014

I had the chance to visit the de Young Museum in San Francisco a few days ago and caught their annual Bouquets to Art exhibit.  Floral artists are paired with a work of art that is meant to inspire their arrangements. There were some incredible pieces – here are just a few I found noteworthy. Love the rosey-twiggy bird!

Leland’s Room

March 18, 2014

More than anything this post is about capturing a moment in time, and one that is soon to change. I walked into my 10-year old son’s room the other day and wanted to capture the feeling of his room, knowing that the teen years are fast approaching. And when that happens, who knows, I may not even be allowed into his room at all!

Holly Pruett, Celebrant

February 19, 2014

HollyPruett

I am dedicating  this blog entry to singing the praises of Holly Pruett. Holly Pruett does with words and ritual what I do with fabric. As a Life-Cycle Celebrant she stitches together the pieces of a person’s life story with their values, beliefs, and traditions. Holly works with her clients to create and officiate unique, personal ceremonies commemorating life’s major life events – from weddings to funerals and everything in between. Please visit her website www.hollypruettcelebrant.com to learn more about her business and her craft.

Winter Inspiration

February 13, 2014

Snow days are not always a given here in the Northwest, so when we were hit with a big snow and ice storm last weekend, I headed for the mountains and found the stark, dormant vegetation an inspiration.

What Moved Me Today

January 17, 2014

Today would have been the 100th birthday of Oregon’s former Poet Laureate, William Stafford.  Oregon Public Broadcasting just aired a live show from Portland’s Central Library honoring this amazing writer. Give it a listen or check out some of his poetry to inspire you in whatever you do.

From Lori’s Notebook

  • Mark’s van der Rohe

It’s not often that the clothing I receive for my memorial quilts so clearly reflects a person’s passion and life work.

  • Louisa’s Eclipse

I believe many of us from a certain generation can relate to having held on to a box of our mother’s or grandmother’s table linens which we don’t have the heart to discard, nor do we want to bust out our irons every time we have a dinner party.

  • A Tartan for Tasmania

After having successfully shipped my most recent quilt all the way to my client Sigrid in Tasmania, I can officially say that my work has made its way across the world.
