May 5, 2015

A marvelous exhibition is opening this week here in Portland, Oregon. Celebrated artist, Dana Lynn Louis, is having a solo show at the Laura Russo Gallery, entitled, Thread. Being in the thread business myself, I am naturally quite curious to discover how Louis interprets this theme. Read more >

“Constructs” Exhibit

January 19, 2015

I just took in a great show at the Disjecta Gallery, here in Portland, Oregon. The show is called “Constructs” and features the work of talented artists, Laura Vandenburgh, Nathan Green, and Pablo Rasgado. I found their use and appreciation of pattern and texture quite inspiring. Vandenburgh creates large, net-like structures out of cut paper that reminded me of contours on maps.

Amazing Martin Guitars

September 19, 2014

I had the pleasure of visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art this week and seeing an exhibit of early C.F. Martin guitars.  The surface design on his instruments was incredible – I wish we could have heard someone playing each one!

Floral Inspirations

March 21, 2014

I had the chance to visit the de Young Museum in San Francisco a few days ago and caught their annual Bouquets to Art exhibit.  Floral artists are paired with a work of art that is meant to inspire their arrangements. There were some incredible pieces – here are just a few I found noteworthy. Love the rosey-twiggy bird!

From Lori’s Notebook

  • Mark’s van der Rohe

It’s not often that the clothing I receive for my memorial quilts so clearly reflects a person’s passion and life work.

  • Louisa’s Eclipse

I believe many of us from a certain generation can relate to having held on to a box of our mother’s or grandmother’s table linens which we don’t have the heart to discard, nor do we want to bust out our irons every time we have a dinner party.

  • A Tartan for Tasmania

After having successfully shipped my most recent quilt all the way to my client Sigrid in Tasmania, I can officially say that my work has made its way across the world.
