Free Form: My Art From the Early ’70s

June 9, 2016

1

Over this past weekend, my 11-year old son decided to completely redo his room, which entailed taking everything off his walls that’s been up since he was two.  In the process, I helped him decide what to keep and what to ditch. The pirate flag made the cut, but not much else. I’ve been meaning to put together a scrap book of his early artwork, but there isn’t a whole lot to work with. I have never once heard him ask to draw – instead we spent his early years riding public transit where he could get his fill of talking to strangers. We’d go to the zoo to be with his favorite animals: people!

Needless to say, his scrap book will be thin. Mine, however, is a bit thicker, and as I flipped through it the other day, it brought me back to those rainy Seattle days growing up when my art pad was my best companion.

Here is a sampling…

This one may work its way into a future fabric print somehow.

There’s got to be a story that goes along with this one.

From Lori’s Notebook

  • Mark’s van der Rohe

It’s not often that the clothing I receive for my memorial quilts so clearly reflects a person’s passion and life work.

  • Louisa’s Eclipse

I believe many of us from a certain generation can relate to having held on to a box of our mother’s or grandmother’s table linens which we don’t have the heart to discard, nor do we want to bust out our irons every time we have a dinner party.

  • A Tartan for Tasmania

After having successfully shipped my most recent quilt all the way to my client Sigrid in Tasmania, I can officially say that my work has made its way across the world.
