Winter Whites

December 2, 2015

Snow has begun to fall in the mountains, and I’m dusting off my ski gear and turning my attention to the oncoming winter months. With that in mind, I’ve been inspired by some beautiful items that all share the common theme of winter white.

Onstail, one of my favorite Etsy shops, makes delightful hand felted slippers.

If you haven’t already checked out Simon Beck‘s amazing snow art, it’s worth a look.

These crafty DIY lamps made out of PVC pipe could be a lovely addition for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere nearing the shortest day of the year.

Michele Michael of Elephant Ceramics makes elegant, hand-built pottery in many colors, but my favorites are the white pieces where the forms can really stand out.

I designed this year’s holiday card with the Queen Anne’s Lace flower in mind.

I just happened to find this cozy Irish cable knit sweater at Cupshe, an online retailer. My grandmother once made my entire family beautiful, cream-colored, Irish cable knit sweaters – ALL with the neck and wrist openings too small! We decided not to tell her.

I came across a photo of Priska Wegner‘s other worldly textile installation, Obscurum, and fell in love with these forms. They remind me of a cross between a sunflower and a jellyfish.

The world is full of photographs of cute, white, furry animals in the snow, but I find this Goliath Beetle wonderfully creepy and intricately adorned.

Wishing everyone a winter full of stark, magical White!

  • Mark’s van der Rohe

It’s not often that the clothing I receive for my memorial quilts so clearly reflects a person’s passion and life work.

  • Louisa’s Eclipse

I believe many of us from a certain generation can relate to having held on to a box of our mother’s or grandmother’s table linens which we don’t have the heart to discard, nor do we want to bust out our irons every time we have a dinner party.

  • A Tartan for Tasmania

After having successfully shipped my most recent quilt all the way to my client Sigrid in Tasmania, I can officially say that my work has made its way across the world.
