New PDX Wellness Center: A Breath of Fresh Air

August 6, 2015

1

I had the distinct pleasure today of getting to tour around the construction of the new Breathe Building, a comprehensive yoga and wellness center soon to open in Southeast Portland at the corner of SE Sherman and 55th. The folks at Yoga Union have teamed up with friends and family to create a visionary center for health and mindfulness which will include two yoga studios, a small restaurant, massage, naturopathy complete with apothecary, an aesthetician, and a small daycare. Oh, and a sweet second floor outdoor patio.

2

The reason I was able to get this sneak peek is because my talented friend, Dana Louis, was commissioned to paint an extensive mural on the exterior of the building which wraps around multiple sides and dips into the crevices of the architecture.

Her work is a beautiful compliment to what I consider to be the underpinning of health and wellness, which is the movement of breath. Dana’s drawings evoke a feeling of the kinesthetic inner workings of our bodies as well as the larger pathways of life energy.

I tip my hat to the creators of what will surely be a vibrant space to experience.

From Lori’s Notebook

  • Mark’s van der Rohe

It’s not often that the clothing I receive for my memorial quilts so clearly reflects a person’s passion and life work.

  • Louisa’s Eclipse

I believe many of us from a certain generation can relate to having held on to a box of our mother’s or grandmother’s table linens which we don’t have the heart to discard, nor do we want to bust out our irons every time we have a dinner party.

  • A Tartan for Tasmania

After having successfully shipped my most recent quilt all the way to my client Sigrid in Tasmania, I can officially say that my work has made its way across the world.
